The 91-year-old appears to have diabetes and serious kidney problems. A photo of Gorbachev, while in his hospital bed, with the economist next to him, was also published.
Dmitry Muratov, editor-in-chief of Russia’s free and independent newspaper, Novaya Gazeta, had already announced the news of Gorbachev’s difficult health conditions in March of this year, a periodical that had long been targeted by Moscow’s censorship for his inquiries. . He revealed in an interview:“I visited Gorbachev in the hospital. He turned 91 and was not feeling well, but he assured me that everything must be done to stop the threat of nuclear war.”.
