It’s chamomile, a medicinal plant used for centuries in kitchens for its calming and anti-inflammatory effects, but it’s also increasingly prized for its regulating benefits on blood sugar levels making it particularly suitable for those with diabetes.
The research, which was conducted by the Iranian team from Tabriz Medical University, included a sample of 64 people aged between 30 and 60 years. To perform the test, they each drank a cup of chamomile tea immediately after each meal, and then three times a day. At the same time, a control group drank a simple glass of water. Changes were followed for 8 weeks. The results are unequivocal: the group that drank three cups of chamomile tea per day experienced a decrease in HbA1c and serum insulin levels. It also improves the presence of antioxidants that help the cells in the body to stay healthy.
This research is another confirmation of an important concept: Although diabetes refers to the body’s inability to process sugars, we can fight this problem head-on by starting with the schedule and choosing what we eat. But we also drink.
