How it works
The probiotic supplement, which contains two types of gut bacteria (Bacillus Coagulans and Bacillus Subtilis) and the amino acid L-cysteine, breaks down alcohol into water and carbon dioxide before it reaches the liver. In this way, acetic acid is not produced, which is responsible for the malaise of the next day. Thanks to the presence of vitamin B12, cereals help those who take them to feel “refreshed”.
The tests were performed on twenty-four healthy white adults. They were asked to take two Myrkl tablets or a dummy pill (a dummy medicine) daily for seven days. At this point, based on their weight, they were given a small amount of alcohol (between 50 and 90 ml). The researchers found that during the first 60 minutes, the amount of alcohol in the blood was 70% lower in those who took Merkel’s compared to the placebo pill.
Doubts and critical issues
– The first term is represented by a limited sample of people taken into account. Experts wonder if the birth control pill is also suitable for the non-young or otherwise unhealthy. Also puzzling is the fact that the effect of only one alcoholic drink was tested during the day. According to Joris Verster, a researcher at Utrecht University, “there is no scientific evidence that this product is effective against hangovers.”
– Håkan Magnusson, CEO of the company, explained, “The purpose of Myrkl is to help those moderate drinkers of wine wake up looking their best the next day.” The company specifies that birth control pills cannot suppress the unwanted effects of excessive alcohol intake.
