Antonio Gasparini is the new Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart. He was elected by the College Board, choosing Rocco Bellanton’s successor for the next four years (from the 2022-23 academic year to 2025-26). Professor of Internal Medicine and specializing in Gastroenterology and Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, Gasparrini will fill the new position effective November 1, 2022.
The new Dean is Director of the School of Specialization in Internal Medicine, Department of Medical and Surgical Sciences, Operations Units of Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology, and Cemad (Gastroenterology Center) of the Gemelli Irccs University Clinic Foundation. He is the Integrated Course Coordinator of Clinical Clinic and Medical Therapy for the Medical Degree. He is on the Board of Directors of Gemelli Irccs University Hospital Foundation. He attended as a Clinical Fellow and Researcher in Gastroenterology in the Biochemistry Laboratory Department of Liver Transplantation at the University of Pittsburgh (USA) from 1990 to 1993.
Research and Publications
Author of over 1240 cited publications on PubMed, he has an impact factor of published works of more than 4,000, an H-index of 91 according to Scopus and 116 according to Google Scholar and his work has been cited more than 60,000 times. He is editor of several international scientific journals and a member of Italian and international scientific societies.
His areas of interest are acute and chronic inflammatory and neoplastic diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, liver and pancreas. In recent years, he has studied the role of the gut microbiota in health and pathogenesis of the gastrointestinal tract and beyond, in the interaction of the liver, intestine, brain and intestine, and in the role that nutrition, probiotics, antibiotics, and the cultivation of microorganisms play to modify he-she.
