Catholic University. Antonio Gasparini is the new Dean of Medicine and Surgery

He is Director of the School of Specialization in Internal Medicine in the College of Medicine and Surgery and Director of the Department of Medical and Surgical Sciences and Operations Units of Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology and the Center for Digestive Diseases CEMAD at Gemelli University Hospital IRCCS. He is the Integrated Course Coordinator for Medical Clinic and Clinical Therapy Certificate Course in Medicine and Surgery. He is on the Board of Directors of the IRCCS Gemelli University Polyclinic Foundation.

He is a member of the Governing Council of the European Helicobacter and Microbiota Study Group (EHMSG), of the European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and Nutrition (EAGEN), the Scientific Committee of United European Gastroenterology (UEG), and the Italian. The Association for Celiac Diseases (AIC) and the Interdisciplinary Research Center on Food Issues (TROFIC) of the Catholic University

From 2006 to 2008 he was Secretary of the Italian Association for Liver Studies (AISF) and from 2008 to 2011 President of the Italian Research Foundation in Hepatology (FIRE), from 2010 to 2015 Coordinator of the Alliance Against Hepatitis (ACE), from 2016 To 2021 he was Vice President of the Italian Foundation for Gastroenterology.

His areas of interest are acute and chronic inflammatory and neoplastic diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, liver and pancreas. In recent years, he has developed a special focus on the role of the intestinal microbiota in health and the pathogenesis of gastrointestinal disease and the radicalization of digestion, in the interaction between the liver, intestine and brain, the role of nutrition, probiotics, antibiotics and the transplantation of microorganisms to modify them.
