Russian conductor Tugan Sukhev, at the head of the orchestra and choir of the National Academy of Santa Cecilia, is the protagonist of the concert broadcast on Thursday, July 7 at 9.15 pm on Ray 5. Cantata for baritone, choir and orchestra “Primavera” by Sergei Rachmaninov. The piece, written in 1902, is based on a poem by Nikolai Nekrasov, telling his story of a husband tormented by murderous thoughts towards his wife who confessed to his betrayal, thanks to the return of spring he was able to overcome the shock. The English baritone pair is played by Gary Magee. This is followed by the famous Polovian dances, in the chorus version taken from the opera “Prince Igor” by Alexander Borodin, while the evening is closed by Symphony n. 5 composed by Tchaikovsky, on which the composer worked in the summer of 1888.
