The man drowned in Lake Poschiavo last July 2 and did not succeed. Matteo Marantelli of Stazzona, municipality of Villa di Tirano, died yesterday afternoon, Wednesday, July 6, in the hospital of Canton Chur.

The 54-year-old, an automaker and driver for trucking company Perego, was on the banks of the Poschiavino Reservoir when he decided to jump into the water to escape the heat. In a few moments there was no trace of the man who had been swallowed by the lake. To see and retrieve the man, who is several meters deep, was “a person who was also on the shore of the lake at the time of the accident,” according to cantonal police.

Once he was brought back to shore, the man’s conditions seemed extremely dangerous. Marantelli was immediately revived, and he was taken by helicopter to the hospital. Unfortunately, after four days of torment, without ever regaining consciousness, his heart had stopped beating.
